Want to spice up your Thursday mornings with a mystery? Why not make it an extra cryptic one with,  ‘The Missing Cryptoqueen.’ On the 17th of September 2019, BBC sounds launched a podcast series, that takes us through one of the most renowned crypto scandal, OneCoin.

Written and produced by Jamie Barlett and Georgia Catt, the series starts out by introducing us to the self-proclaimed cryptoqueen, Dr. Ruja Ignatova. Since the conception of OneCoin in 2014, Dr.Ruja has been the face of the pyramid scheme and happened to mysteriously disappear in 2017.

The series has a number of interviews, including some of the victims of the scam, experts in the field, bodyguards, beauty queens and even those involved in the scheme. All this in the effort to decipher where Dr.Ruja is and get to the bottom of OneCoin.

It is said that OneCoin has lost over 5 billion dollars but as ongoing investigations are still going on internationally, we are still unsure of exactly how much money has been swindled. The OneCoin website is still active and reports claim that people are still buying investment packages.

On the offical OneCoin website it states:

“When joining OneCoin, users become part of a global network of millions of OneCoin miners, who are able to choose among different ways to use their OneCoins. You can mine the coin and benefit from its value. You will also be able to make payments and transfer money to and from any part of the world.”

You will probably become part of a global network, but not the kind you think you’ll be part of.

This is not a series solely for those interested in cryptocurrency, but also for those who are interested in mysteries in general. The hosts are extremely eloquent and give their listeners a very well-rounded explanation of what exactly a blockchain consists of, what OneCoin is and a boatload of very powerful investigative journalism.
